Why cant i delete xp antivirus?

my son downloaded xp antivirus because he said he couldnt do anything w/out downloading it, and according to the web this is a form of a trojan masquerading as virus protection, promting you to pay for the service. when i go to the control panel i cant find the name, or the symbol to delete it, and there is no contact number to speak to someone (suprise!!). what do i do now?.

i had the same problem today and it ain't hard to delete it. download spybot search and destroy. then open spybot and do a scan on it. it should detect Fraud Xp Antivirus and any other spyware. after youve completed the scan click Fix. then go to restore and mark any spyware you want permanently gone. then click Purge. then you have deleted it! good luck!
i assume when you went to control panel you mean you went to add/remove programs? run you anti virus to do an in depth scan of your hard drive the most in depth scan it can. If that doesn't find and remove it back up all your important stuff on a flash drive. then you get the fun task of reformating you computer. put in your restore disk or your OS (windows) disk and do a clean install/new install. do not create another partition.
Trojans are clever, they are specifically designed to NOT be easily removable.
