operating system

Type of processor

Speed of processor

Front side bus speed

type of RAM

speed of RAM

amount of RAM

access speed of disk

rotational speed of disk

amount of free disk space

number and characteristics of TSRs (which includes virus and trojans along with legitimate programs)

disk fragmentation

number of disk errors (ALL disks have bad sectors and other physical errors. Modern disks just have hidden these from the user).

Those programs have a special software built inside them by the devolopers. i was wondering about that to but i did some research on it(:
a lot of things can affect the performance... running a lot of programs at once, low memory, and even some certain programs that you run can cause a computer to run slower.

defraging the computer is when your computer will delete files that you dont need. this generally makes the computer run faster. cleaning up the hard drive pretty much does the same thing... you delete files that you dont need. both of these will give your computer more memory and a faster speed.

virus protection is very important. you should get a good internet security tool that can remove viruses, trojans, spyware, and adware. from your computer. especially viruses and trojans since they do the most damage to your computer. adware and spyware dont really do much damage except for giving you popups and taking up computer memory.
